Pune News: Fire Disrupts 220 kV Line, Power Outage Affects 66,000 Consumers In Hinjewadi, Wakad, And Nearby Areas
Pune, March 29, 2025: A grass fire in a field at Man (Mulshi) led to the tripping of the Maharashtra State Transmission Company’s 220 kV Pirangut-Hinjewadi high-voltage tower line on Friday at 5:29 PM. As a result, power supply to 66,000 domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers, including 200 IT companies in Hinjewadi, Wakad, Maan, Marunji, Kasarsai, and surrounding areas, was disrupted for 46 minutes.
Later, at around 7 PM, the same transmission line experienced another tripping, causing a renewed power outage across the region. Maharashtra State Transmission Company officials immediately initiated emergency repairs to restore electricity.
The incident occurred when dry grass under the transmission line caught fire, leading to a power shortfall of 152 MW in the Pimpri and Mulshi divisions of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL). Despite swift restoration efforts, the recurrence of tripping in the evening prolonged the outage. Authorities continue to work on stabilizing the supply.
