In a rare rescue operation, firefighters in Kerala helped doctors remove an iron washer stuck in a man’s private part. The 46-year-old had been suffering for three days before seeking medical help at a district hospital in Kanhangad.

The man arrived at the hospital with severe swelling in his genital area, making urination difficult. Doctors realized the situation was critical and called the Fire and Rescue team for assistance around 10 pm on March 25.

Station Officer PV Pavithran of Kanhangad Fire Station said the team used a ring cutter, a tool typically used to remove stuck rings from fingers. The firefighters worked carefully to cut the washer without causing further injury to the patient, who had been sedated by doctors.

“It was a very alarming sight. The washer was tightly placed around the area, completely blocking urination,” Pavithran said.

A five-member team carried out the delicate procedure, ensuring the man was not harmed during the removal process. The timely intervention prevented further complications that could have led to a life-threatening condition.

Firefighters are often seen as rescuers in major emergencies, but this incident highlights their crucial role in assisting during medical crises. The patient is now under medical care and recovering.

Authorities have not revealed how the washer got stuck, but the incident serves as a reminder of the unexpected challenges medical professionals and rescue teams face.
