PUNE: In a shocking case of loan recovery aggression, two men have been arrested for allegedly assaulting a borrower at his residence after he failed to make an education loan payment. The incident, which occurred in the Wanowrie area of Pune, has also led to a case being filed against a private financial institution’s manager for ordering the attack.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Aakash Purushottam Sapa (32) and Rishikesh Nagnath Chandanshive (26). They were reportedly acting on instructions from Harshad Jiman, a manager at the financial institution, who has been booked for orchestrating the assault. According to police reports, a 46-year-old borrower had taken a loan of â‚¹7.73 lakh from a private financial institution in Shivajinagar to fund his daughter’s education. He had been consistently paying an EMI of ₹18,000 and had completed 24 installments. However, due to financial difficulties, he missed one payment.

On March 25, the financial institution allegedly harassed him over the phone, using abusive language and threats. In an effort to resolve the matter, the borrower personally visited their office to explain his situation. However, just two days later, on March 27, two bouncers reportedly stormed into his home in Shantinagar Vasahat, verbally abused him, and physically assaulted him, refusing to leave until the overdue installment was paid.

Police Investigation Underway

Following the victim’s complaint, the Wanowrie police swiftly launched an investigation. Authorities confirmed that the bouncers had acted under direct orders from Harshad Jiman, the financial institution’s manager. Consequently, the police arrested the two bouncers and filed a case against Jiman.

The investigation is ongoing, with Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Dr. Rajkumar Shinde overseeing the proceedings. The case has sparked widespread outrage, with many calling for regulatory reforms to curb illegal and violent loan recovery practices.
