The State Bank of India (SBI) also communicated a service disruption to its customers.
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) recently posted on X (formerly Twitter) informing users that some banks are experiencing intermittent transaction declines due to year-end financial closure activities. However, NPCI reassured customers that the UPI system is working normally, and they are collaborating with the affected banks to resolve the issue.
NPCI’s message stated:
“Today due to the financial year closing, some of the banks are facing intermittent transaction declines. The UPI system is working fine, and we are working with the concerned banks for necessary redressal.”
The State Bank of India (SBI) also communicated a service disruption to its customers. The post mentioned:
Due to Annual Closing activities our digital Services will be unavailable to our esteemed customers between 01:00 pm to 04:00 pm (1ST) on 01.04.2025. We request you to use UPI Lite and ATM Channels for uninterrupted services. We apologize for the inconvenience caused.”
What is UPI Lite and How to Use It?
UPI Lite is a feature introduced by NPCI to enable quick, low-value transactions without requiring a UPI PIN. It simplifies the payment process for small amounts, allowing users to make transactions of up to ₹1,000 per transaction, with a daily limit of ₹5,000. Payments are made directly from an on-device wallet.
Here’s how to start using UPI Lite:
- l Open your preferred UPI app (e.g., BHIM, Google Pay, PhonePe).
- l Navigate to the UPI Lite section within the app.
- l Link your bank account to UPI Lite.
- l Load your UPI Lite wallet with an amount (up to ₹2,000) from your linked bank account. You may need to authenticate with your UPI PIN.
- l To make a payment, scan any UPI-enabled QR code or enter the recipient’s phone number.
- l Choose UPI Lite as the payment method.
UPI Lite makes it easier to continue making quick, low-value payments, especially during service disruptions.
