Pune: ₹650 Crore Road and Flyover Project Launched to Decongest Hinjawadi IT Park; MIDC Takes Over Land Acquisition

Pune: To address the growing traffic congestion in Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has launched a ₹650 crore infrastructure project, which includes new roads and a flyover. Land acquisition is already underway.
With vehicular traffic in Hinjawadi increasing sharply in recent years, existing roads have proven insufficient—especially around Laxmi Chowk, a major choke point. To address this, a 720-meter four-lane flyover will be built at Laxmi Chowk at a cost of ₹40 crore.
Key Projects Under the Plan:
- Flyover at Laxmi Chowk: 720 meters, ₹40 crore
- Six-lane road (Shivaji Chowk to Smashanbhoomi): 900 meters, ₹24.74 crore
- New road connecting Phase I to Phase III of IT Park: 5 km, ₹584.14 crore
To expedite the process, MIDC has taken over land acquisition responsibilities from the Public Works Department, following a decision led by District Collector Jitendra Dudi. MIDC has already submitted the proposal for approval.
“Once sanctioned, work will begin as directed by the District Collector,” said Archana Pathare, Regional Officer, MIDC.
Calls for Greater Government Action
While the IT sector has welcomed the initiative, stakeholders urge further government involvement.
“The Industries Minister should visit the area. Metro alone won’t fix the issue—additional roads and flyovers are vital,” said Pawanjit Mane, President, Forum for IT Employees.
Looking Ahead
With approvals nearing and MIDC leading land acquisition, construction is expected to begin soon. These developments aim to improve daily commutes for thousands in the IT hub. However, experts caution that long-term, sustainable traffic planning will be essential as the area continues to grow.
