Pune Airport Welcomes 10.54 Million Passengers in 2024-25, Adds New Routes and Facilities
Pune Airport soared to new heights in the fiscal year 2024-25, recording 10.54 million passengers—a 10.66% increase over the previous year. With expanded flight networks, upgraded infrastructure, and the launch of a new integrated terminal, the airport is fast emerging as a major hub in India’s aviation landscape.
Under the guidance of Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, Pune Airport has strengthened both its domestic and international footprint. Airport Director Santosh Dhoke described the year as transformative, highlighting enhancements in connectivity, passenger services, and cargo operations.
Passenger Surge and Flight Growth
The airport witnessed a peak in December 2024, handling over 954,000 domestic and 33,337 international travelers. Aircraft movements totaled 68,557 for the year, up by 7.05%. January and February saw the highest traffic, coinciding with the busy travel season.
“These figures reaffirm Pune’s growing importance in the aviation sector,” said Dhoke. “We’re committed to meeting rising demand with better services and facilities.”
Expanded Flight Network: New Domestic and International Routes
The year also marked the launch of several new routes that broadened Pune’s connectivity:
International:
- Dubai: Daily direct flights began on October 27, 2024.
- Bangkok: Thrice-weekly service launched the same day.
Domestic:
- New direct flights to Bhopal and Trivandrum.
- Additional connections to Chennai, Indore, Ahmedabad, and Dehradun.
With these additions, Pune now connects to 35 domestic destinations.
Cargo Operations: A Boost to Trade
Cargo handling reached 41,191.5 tonnes—an 8.85% increase. After a slight decline last year, international cargo operations bounced back, reinforcing Pune’s role in global trade.
Modern Marvel: New Integrated Terminal
A highlight of 2024 was the inauguration of the New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) in July. Covering 52,000 square meters, it’s built to handle up to 9 million passengers annually and features:
- 34 check-in counters and 25 self-check-in kiosks
- 5 passenger boarding bridges
- In-Line Hold Baggage Handling System (ILHBS)
- A Four-Star GRIHA sustainability rating
“This terminal is not just about capacity—it reflects Pune’s culture and our commitment to world-class service,” said Dhoke.
Enhanced Passenger Experience
Pune Airport now offers upgraded lounges, diverse food outlets, and a mix of international and local brands—from Starbucks and KFC to Pune’s iconic Chitale Bandhu. Cultural exhibits celebrate Maharashtra’s heritage, offering travelers a unique local touch.
Looking Ahead
The airport has ambitious plans for further growth, including additional flights, expanded cargo capacity, and upgraded passenger amenities.
“Our goal is to make Pune Airport a premier aviation hub,” Dhoke added. “We’re focused on supporting the city’s development and delivering a world-class travel experience.”
