MP Supriya Sule Calls for Inquiry into Hospital Negligence in Pregnant Woman’s Death
While hospitals in Pune are equipped with modern medical facilities, it is extremely concerning if these services are denied due to a lack of money, said MP Supriya Sule. She highlighted a shocking incident where a seven-month pregnant woman experiencing severe bleeding was allegedly denied treatment by a reputed hospital in Pune due to financial constraints.
Even after a call from the state secretariat, timely treatment was not provided. The woman suffered in agony outside the hospital for hours, yet the administration failed to act with humanity. Eventually, she was shifted to another hospital, where she gave birth to twin girls but tragically lost her life due to excessive bleeding,”.Sule stated.
She emphasized that maternal healthcare policies should ensure zero maternal deaths during childbirth. However, if hospitals refuse to act even after intervention from the government, what hope is there for the common people?
Sule urged the government to take serious note of this incident and conduct a thorough investigation. She also stressed the need for clear guidelines for all hospitals across the state to prevent the denial of urgent medical care based on financial constraints.Rupali Chakankar, President of the Maharashtra State Women’s Commission, said, “The incident of a woman who gave birth to twin girls passing away due to negligence and lack of proper treatment at Dinanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune has come to light through the media. The Maharashtra State Women’s Commission has taken note of the matter. The commission has directed the Commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation to investigate the facts, conduct an inquiry, take necessary action, and submit a factual report to the commission.”
