Pune | April 7, 2025 — The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd. (PMPML) has issued a stern warning to its drivers and conductors following multiple complaints from passengers, citizen groups, and public representatives about repeated violations of traffic rules by staff operating on both PMPML and contractor-run buses.

According to PMPML’s official press release, complaints have included serious misconduct such as drivers speaking on mobile phones while operating buses, halting buses at zebra crossings, smoking during duty hours, failing to update route boards, violating lane discipline, and jumping traffic signals.

In response, PMPML’s Chairman and Managing Director has directed that all such violations be addressed with urgency. The transport body has circulated internal guidelines to bus staff, emphasizing strict adherence to traffic rules. Key instructions include:

Balwadkar
  • No use of mobile phones while driving
  • Strict compliance with all traffic laws
  • Smoking prohibition during duty hours
  • Stopping buses only at designated bus stops
  • Maintaining lane discipline
  • Avoiding overspeeding

PMPML has further stated that if any staff member is found violating these norms, action will be taken following an inquiry — including possible suspension of the driver or conductor involved.
