Pune, June 11, 2026: A five-year-old child selected for admission under the Right to Education (RTE) quota has allegedly been denied admission by Euro School in Undri despite receiving approval from education authorities, prompting the child’s mother to approach government officials and the police for intervention.

The 28-year-old woman has lodged complaints with the Pune District Collector, the Director of Primary Education, the Zilla Parishad Education Officer, and the police, alleging that the school refused to admit her child despite a valid RTE allotment for the academic year 2026-27.

According to the complaint raised by the mother, the child was selected through the government’s RTE admission process and the admission was verified and approved by the authorities. The mother alleged that the school demanded ₹50,000 in cash and later denied admission when she requested an official receipt for the payment.

She stated that her child had been legally selected through the government lottery system and that all required documents had been verified by the competent authorities. Despite this, the admission was allegedly not granted.

The woman further claimed that after she sought a receipt for the alleged payment demand, the school raised objections regarding the authenticity of documents submitted during the admission process. She alleged that these objections were introduced only after she refused to make an undocumented payment.

The dispute was subsequently brought before the Pune Municipal Corporation’s Education Department. In a communication dated May 23, 2026, education authorities reportedly directed the school to admit the student and rejected the objections raised during the admission process.

The communication is said to have clarified that schools do not have the authority to independently re-verify documents already approved by the government verification committee. It also warned that refusal to grant admission without valid grounds could attract action under the RTE Act, including proceedings related to the institution’s recognition.

Despite these directions, the mother alleges that admission has still not been granted.

“My child’s education is suffering. The academic session has already begun, and every day lost affects my child’s future. While all other children have started attending school, my child is still at home. I am only asking that the admission approved by the government be implemented,” she said.

Pune Zilla Parishad Education Officer’s Say On RTE Admission Dispute

The Pune Zilla Parishad’s Primary Education Department has directed the school to immediately grant admission to a student allotted a seat under the Right to Education (RTE) 25% quota for the academic year 2026-27 by June 8, 2026 or face stern action.

In an official communication dated June 5, 2026, the Education Officer (Primary), Pune Zilla Parishad, clarified that the student’s documents had already been verified and approved by the designated government verification committee during the online RTE admission process. As per the directives issued by the Directorate of Primary Education, schools are not authorized to conduct a fresh verification of documents once admission eligibility has been certified by the competent authorities.

The letter further states that under government rules governing RTE admissions, any school found deliberately denying admission to an eligible student without valid grounds may face punitive action, including withdrawal of recognition under the provisions of the RTE Act.

The Education Department instructed the school to complete the admission process for the student by June 8, 2026, and ensure that the child’s education does not suffer due to administrative delays.

The communication also warned that failure to comply with the directive could result in administrative proceedings for derecognition of the school as well as the initiation of criminal action against the institution. The directive was issued following a complaint filed by the student’s mother regarding the denial of admission despite the child’s successful allotment under the RTE admission process.

PMC Education Department’s Say

When Pune Pulse contacted Shankar Mandave from the education department of PMC he stated that the civic authorities have been in the process of taking action but are awaiting a response from the school.

It is very surprising to see that despite ZIlla Parishad’s letter, PMC has not yet taken any action against the school.

When contacted for a response, Euro school officials did not respond.
