Pune Traffic Police Launch Trial Weekend Entry for RMC Mixer Trucks Across the City
Pune, July 27, 2026: In a move aimed at improving traffic management while facilitating ongoing construction projects, the Pune Traffic Police have announced a trial relaxation for Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) mixer trucks operating within the city.
The order, issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr. Sandeep Bhajibhakare, allows RMC mixer vehicles to enter and operate across Pune city, including Red Zone areas, without obtaining prior permission on Saturdays and Sundays between 6:00 am and 5:00 pm.
The decision has been taken under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and relevant Maharashtra Government regulations to ensure smoother traffic movement, reduce congestion caused by heavy vehicles, and minimise inconvenience to commuters while supporting construction activities.
The relaxation applies only to RMC mixer vehicles and does not extend to other slow-moving construction equipment such as JCBs, road rollers, tractors, or other goods vehicles. The Traffic Police clarified that there is no change in restrictions for heavy vehicles such as Hyva dumpers and trucks, which will continue to follow the existing regulations.
Safety Measures Made Mandatory
To enhance road safety, the Pune Traffic Police have made it compulsory for all RMC mixer vehicles to be equipped with at least one of the following safety systems:
- 360-degree camera
- Rear-view (back) camera
- Reverse parking sensor
Alternatively, every mixer truck must be accompanied by a cleaner or driver’s assistant to assist during vehicle movement and reversing.
Additionally, every RMC plant operator has been directed to install a DD machine and ensure that every mixer vehicle undergoes inspection through the machine before leaving the plant premises.
The Traffic Police said the new arrangement is being implemented on an experimental basis and may be modified or withdrawn depending on traffic conditions, public interest, and administrative requirements.
Authorities have directed all contractors, developers, vehicle owners, transport operators, and drivers to strictly comply with the new guidelines. Violations of the order will attract legal action under the Motor Vehicles Act, the Maharashtra Police Act, and other applicable laws.
