Pune Metro Will Not Succeed If Connectivity, Parking Issues Persist: Supriya Sule
Baramati MP and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) working president Supriya Sule has raised concerns over the lack of first- and last-mile connectivity and inadequate parking facilities at Pune Metro stations. Speaking on Monday, she emphasized that without addressing these issues, the Metro project cannot achieve its goal of reducing road traffic.
Sule called on the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) and local governing bodies to formulate a comprehensive policy to improve accessibility to Metro stations. “This policy should not only apply to Pune but also to other cities where Metro services are planned or underway,” she said, adding that she intends to take up the matter with central government ministers.
Highlighting the urgent need for better public transport, Sule also demanded the procurement of at least 5,000 new buses to improve last-mile connectivity. “The delay in acquiring these buses is worrisome. If the government can spend crores on Metro infrastructure, funding buses should not be an issue. This must be treated as a top priority by both central and state governments,” she stated.
Sule’s comments came after her meeting with Maha Metro officials, where she discussed ways to enhance the effectiveness and reach of the Metro network.
