A 46-year-old cab driver from Vadgaon Sheri, Pune, who was undergoing treatment at KEM Hospital, was declared brain dead on March 8 after suffering internal bleeding. In a remarkable act of generosity, his organs were donated, saving the lives of three patients.
Following consent from his family—including his father, wife, and two sons—the cab driver’s kidneys, liver, and heart were donated. His kidneys were transplanted to two women, aged 41 and 56, at KEM Hospital and Symbiosis Hospital in Pune. A 57-year-old woman at Sahyadri Super Specialty Hospital received his liver.
In a race against time, the donor’s heart was transported from Pune to Jaslok Hospital in Mumbai using a green corridor. With the assistance of Pune traffic police and the coordination of Zonal Transplant Coordination Committee (ZTCC), the heart reached Mumbai within two hours, benefiting a 54-year-old patient.
