Sudden braking by a speeding SUV on the newly opened Tiger Valley Bridge triggers a chain collision; no casualties reported.

Lonavala, 17th June: A multi-vehicle accident took place in the early hours of June 17 on the newly opened Missing Link section of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

The crash occurred on the elevated cable-stayed Tiger Valley Bridge in the Bhor Ghat stretch when a speeding Toyota Fortuner reportedly applied sudden brakes. Due to the high speeds maintained by vehicles on this section, the cars following behind had very little time to react, resulting in a chain collision involving three other vehicles.

Despite the severity of the crash and the location of the accident on a bridge overlooking a deep valley, no fatalities were reported. However, the vehicles involved suffered extensive damage.

The accident led to heavy traffic congestion during the morning rush hour. Highway Police and IRB patrol teams quickly reached the spot, removed the damaged vehicles and worked to restore normal traffic flow.

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is closely monitoring the newly opened route and is in the process of installing wind barriers on the bridge to reduce the impact of strong crosswinds in the valley.

Authorities have urged motorists to follow traffic rules, maintain safe speeds and avoid sudden braking, as even a minor lapse can lead to serious accidents on high-speed expressways.
