Pune – The long-pending demand of residents and commuters to remove the incomplete BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) corridor on Pune-Nagar Road has finally been fulfilled. The actual dismantling work began late Saturday night at Somnath Nagar Chowk, Kharadi Bypass, and Aaple Ghar junctions.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had approved the decision to remove the BRT corridor in a high-level meeting held last week on April 9. This move comes after several years of complaints from citizens regarding traffic congestion and frequent accidents caused by the ill-planned BRT lanes.

Local MLA Bapusaheb Pathare had persistently raised this issue in the Legislative Assembly, highlighting the dangers posed by the corridor. He also held discussions with municipal officials. Former MLA Sunil Tingre had brought the matter to the attention of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who subsequently directed the administration to take necessary action.

The police department had also recommended the removal of the corridor and suggested the creation of U-turn facilities in its place to ease traffic flow. Following this, the civic body has initiated further planning and implementation.
