New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast persistent heatwave conditions over parts of Rajasthan until April 18, while Maharashtra will continue to experience hot and humid weather for the next four days, up to April 21.

In its latest weather bulletin, the IMD also clarified that no heatwave conditions are predicted for Delhi until April 22. However, temperatures in the national capital are expected to soar, potentially reaching up to 41°C during this period.

Gradual Temperature Rise in Gujarat

According to the IMD, Gujarat will not witness any major shift in maximum temperatures over the next 24 hours. However, a gradual rise of 2–4°C is likely over the following three days. Maharashtra, in contrast, is expected to maintain stable maximum temperatures over the next week.

Rainfall Forecast Across Multiple Regions

The IMD has issued rainfall alerts for several parts of the country:

  • April 18: Isolated heavy rain or snowfall is expected over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, and other northeastern states.
  • April 18–20: Scattered to isolated rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is likely across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, and Karnataka.
  • Until April 19: Fairly widespread showers are expected over Kerala and Mahe.
  • Until April 20: Moderate rainfall, ranging from scattered to fairly widespread, is likely across Northeast and East India.
  • Until April 18: Plains of Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh may witness moderate showers.

Western Disturbance To Impact Western Himalayas

A strong Western Disturbance is expected to influence the Western Himalayan Region through April 20. As a result, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds reaching 40–50 kmph are likely on April 18 and 19. Isolated hailstorms are also predicted.

Moreover, isolated heavy rainfall is forecast for Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh on April 18 and 19. Light rainfall may also extend to adjoining northwestern plains during the weekend.
