Maharashtra Hosts First State-Level Dhol-Tasha Convention In Pune, Key Demands Presented
Pune, May 5, 2025: Pune recently witnessed a landmark cultural gathering as the first-ever state-level convention of dhol-tasha pathaks from across Maharashtra was held at Tata Hall, BMCC College of Commerce. Organised by the Dhol-Tasha Mahasangh Maharashtra, the event brought together representatives from 250 pathaks across 20 districts including Nagpur, Mumbai, Nashik, Kolhapur, and Solapur.

Key demands were presented to state revenue minister Chandrakant Bawankule, who assured the participants that their proposals would be discussed with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Among the major demands were official recognition of dhol-tasha performances as a key part of state functions, permission to perform during international guest visits, and relaxation of performance timing—specifically allowing evening sessions from 6 pm to 9:30 pm starting 1.5 months before Ganeshotsav.
The convention was inaugurated in the presence of higher and technical education minister Chandrakant Patil, legal expert Pratap Pardeshi, and BMCC principal Rajesh Supekar. A photo exhibition showcasing the rich heritage of dhol-tasha was also unveiled.

Bawankule emphasized the global potential of Maharashtra’s dhol-tasha tradition, calling it “the soul of our cultural celebrations.” Patil added that pending disputes involving pathaks would be resolved and encouraged musical innovation within troupes.
