Pune – As part of a nationwide campaign by the central and state governments to ban single-use plastic, a cloth bag vending machine was installed today near the renowned Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple in Pune. The machine was inaugurated by Maharashtra’s Environment and Animal Husbandry Minister, Pankaja Munde.

Also present at the event were State Minister Madhuri Misal and MLA Hemant Rasane. This initiative is a part of the single-use plastic ban campaign launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and in commemoration of the 300th birth anniversary of Rajmata Ahilyadevi Holkar. Several measures and awareness programs are being implemented across the country to promote a plastic-free society.

Speaking at the event, Minister Munde said, “On the occasion of World Environment Day, the main aim of this initiative is to raise awareness among citizens about eco-friendly alternatives to plastic. Through this vending machine installed at the temple premises, people can now easily purchase an environment-friendly cloth bag for just ₹10. Religious places often witness high usage of plastic bags. Adopting such alternatives can significantly contribute to environmental conservation. I had requested the Dagdusheth Ganpati Trust to support this initiative, and I sincerely thank them for their positive response.”

MLA Hemant Rasane added, “Dagdusheth Ganpati is not just a center of faith, but also a symbol of social responsibility. This initiative from the temple premises to protect the environment will serve as an inspiration for all Pune residents. Using cloth bags is the need of the hour, and such initiatives must receive active support from everyone. The environmental movement beginning from a religious site like this will serve as a model for the entire state.”
