Man Dies After Parking Lift Collapses at Residential Complex in Mumbai’s Borivali West
In a heart-wrenching incident that has left residents shaken, a mechanical failure at a high-rise building in Mumbai’s Borivali West led to a fatal accident on Saturday morning, claiming one life and injuring another.
The mishap took place at Om Prathamesh, a 21-storey residential tower located on Link Road, around 11:08 am. A car parking lift, part of the building’s mechanized parking system, collapsed into a 7-metre-deep pit, trapping two men beneath the heavy platform.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade promptly responded to the emergency call and worked swiftly to rescue the victims from the debris. Despite their efforts, 30-year-old Shubham Madamlal Dhuri could not be saved and was declared dead on arrival at BDBA Shatabdi Hospital, where both victims were rushed in a police vehicle.
The second individual, 45-year-old Sunjeet Yadav, sustained a head injury and was referred for a CT scan to assess the extent of trauma. Hospital authorities have confirmed that he is currently in stable condition.
Officials from the Mumbai Police and fire department have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the catastrophic failure. Preliminary reports suggest that the lift might have suffered a mechanical breakdown, but a thorough probe is underway to confirm whether it was due to negligence, structural issues, or lack of maintenance.
This unfortunate event has raised serious concerns about the safety of automated systems in residential complexes, especially those installed in high-rise buildings. Residents of Om Prathamesh and nearby towers are now urging authorities and builders to conduct urgent safety checks to prevent such tragedies in the future. The investigation is ongoing.
