Chhattisgarh Video: Driver Opens Car Door at 100 kmph to Spit Gutka, Loses Control; Vehicle Overturns, 1 Dead, 3 Injured
A shocking case of reckless driving claimed one life and left three injured in Chhattisgarh after a car overturned multiple times on the Bilaspur-Raipur highway early Monday morning. The accident occurred when the driver of a speeding Toyota Innova reportedly opened the door to spit gutka while travelling at over 100 kmph, causing the vehicle to spiral out of control.
The incident took place around 1:30 AM when Jackie Gehi (31), a cloth merchant from Chakarbhatha, called his friend Akash Chandani for a ride home after a late-night party. Akash, accompanied by another friend Pankaj Chhabra, picked up Jackie in the Innova.
While driving on the highway, Akash allegedly opened the door of the moving car to spit gutka. This sudden action caused him to lose control, leading the vehicle to ram into the divider and flip repeatedly. All three occupants were violently thrown out of the car. Jackie sustained fatal injuries after hitting a metal pole and died on the spot, while Akash and Pankaj were seriously injured.
The out-of-control vehicle didn’t stop there—it smashed into a parked commercial vehicle and continued to overturn before crashing into a stationary Maruti Ertiga. The Ertiga’s driver, who was inside the vehicle with the engine off, was also injured due to the intense impact.
CCTV footage of the accident shows the Innova flipping at high speed and one passenger being flung across the road, colliding with a roadside pole. The disturbing visuals have sparked widespread outrage over the negligent act.
Emergency services reached the spot shortly after being alerted by passersby. Police cordoned off the area and facilitated the transport of the injured to the hospital. The mangled vehicles were later removed, and traffic was restored.
Authorities have identified the deceased as Jackie Gehi and have launched a formal investigation into the circumstances leading up to the crash.
