Monsoon Gains Momentum in Maharashtra; Orange Alert Issued for Mumbai, Thane and Ghat Regions
After a 20-day lull, the monsoon has regained strength across Maharashtra, bringing heavy rainfall to parts of Konkan, Marathwada, Vidarbha, and Central Maharashtra. The monsoon, which had stalled after reaching Mumbai on May 26, is now active again and has progressed further inland.
As of Monday, the monsoon covered the remaining parts of Konkan, Central Maharashtra, and major sections of Marathwada and Vidarbha. It has also started affecting parts of Gujarat. The monsoon line reached Veraval, Bhavnagar, Vadodara, Kharegaon, Amravati, and Durg. In the next 24 hours, it is expected to advance into more areas of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and the Himalayan regions of West Bengal.
Mumbai witnessed intense rainfall, with Colaba recording 100.4 mm and Santacruz 86 mm of rain from Sunday morning to Monday morning. Based on updated forecasts, an Orange Alert has been issued for Mumbai and Thane districts.
Rainfall between 80 mm to 114 mm was also recorded in Borivali, Kandivali, Chincholi, and Dindoshi. Several areas in Thane, Kalyan, and Dombivli also recorded similar amounts. On Tuesday, heavy rain is expected to continue across Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune Ghat sections, Kolhapur, and Satara.
