Weight-loss journeys are often associated with strict meal plans, intense workouts and quick-fix trends. However, one woman who successfully lost 35 kg in 12 months says her transformation came from adopting a few simple but consistent lifestyle changes.

Shavy, who documented her journey on Instagram, recently shared six habits that she believes played a major role in helping her lose weight and maintain discipline throughout her fat-loss phase.

One of the most surprising changes was avoiding family dinners during her weight-loss journey. According to Shavy, her family did not share the same dietary goals and often commented on her food choices. To stay focused, she chose to eat separately for a period of time. She clarified that the decision was temporary and aimed at protecting her routine rather than distancing herself from family members.

Another habit that helped was brushing her teeth immediately after dinner. She described it as a mental signal that eating for the day was over. On occasions when she felt tempted to snack again, she would brush her teeth once more, reinforcing the idea that the kitchen was closed for the night.

To manage binge-eating urges, Shavy introduced a strict no-screen rule. If she felt like overeating, she would do so without watching television, scrolling on her phone or using any other screen. She found that without distractions, the urge often faded before she began eating excessively.

She also adopted a strategy of delaying cravings instead of completely restricting them. Rather than telling herself she could never eat a favourite food again, she would simply postpone it until the next day. According to her, this reduced feelings of deprivation and made it easier to stay on track.

Food visibility also played a role in her success. High-protein snacks such as roasted chana, soya, paneer, boiled eggs and cheese were always placed where they were easy to see and reach. By making healthier choices more convenient, she naturally gravitated towards them when hunger struck.

Another key change involved her social media habits. She deliberately selected “Not Interested” on food-related reels and mukbang videos. Shavy noticed that constantly consuming food content triggered cravings, while reducing exposure helped her think less about eating.

Her experience highlights that sustainable weight loss often depends more on consistency and behaviour changes than on extreme diets. Small daily habits, repeated over time, can have a significant impact on long-term health and fitness goals.
