Pune: Sumedha Chithade To Receive 'Savitri' Award For Setting Up Oxygen Generation Units For Soldiers In Siachen And Kupwara
Sumedha Chithade, who has tirelessly worked for the welfare of Indian soldiers, has been announced as the recipient of this year’s ‘Savitri’ Award , presented annually by Savitri Forum. She is being recognized for establishing oxygen generation plants and refilling units in high-risk areas like Siachen and Kupwara , benefiting thousands of jawans.
The award ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 5 PM at Jawaharlal Nehru Auditorium, Ghole Road, Pune . Noted educational advisor and founder of Vidya Vikas Seva Pratishthan, Shreekant Ganpati Sutar , recipient of the National Best Teacher Award, will be the chief guest. The award includes ₹5,000 cash, a memento, certificate, shawl, and coconut.
As part of the event, 50 meritorious and underprivileged girl students will receive around ₹1 lakh in educational assistance under the annual ‘Vidyanidhi Yojana’ .
Sumedhatai, founder of SIRF (Soldiers Independent Rehabilitation Foundation) , has dedicated her life to soldiers—building oxygen plants in harsh terrains and supporting over 1 lakh jawans . She also works for martyr families, disabled soldiers, military schools, and hospitals.
Apart from her social work, she is a singer, author, and poet , honored by Akashvani and Doordarshan. Her patriotic work reflects her ideals inspired by Shivaji Maharaj and Veer Savarkar .
