Pune To Get New Railway Line From Talegaon To Uruli Kanchan Via Chakan And Ranjangaon; Ajit Pawar Announces Major Infra Boost
Pune, June 24, 2025: In a major development for the city, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has announced a new railway line project for Pune that promises to significantly ease traffic congestion and accelerate regional growth. The proposed route will connect Talegaon Dabhade to Uruli Kanchan, passing through Chakan and Ranjangaon.
Speaking at a public rally of the Nationalist Congress Party in Bhosari, Pawar highlighted the urgent need for a dedicated rail corridor parallel to the proposed ring road around Pune. “Without a ring road and an adjoining railway line, traffic bottlenecks in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad will persist,” he stated.
Proposed Railway Route:
- Start: Talegaon Dabhade
- Via: Chakan, Ranjangaon
- End: Uruli Kanchan
Ajit Pawar confirmed that the railway administration is currently reviewing the plan, and coordination efforts are underway to launch the project soon. Once operational, the line is expected to decongest Pune Railway Station, improve train punctuality, and provide a faster route for both passenger and freight transport.
Key Benefits of the New Railway Line:
- Eases burden on Pune’s existing rail corridors like Pune–Lonavala and Pune–Daund, which are currently running over capacity with 72 daily trains.
- Enhances connectivity for Talegaon and Chakan residents.
- Boosts industrial zones in Chakan and Ranjangaon, enhancing logistics and movement of goods.
- Supports future urban expansion and infrastructure planning along the ring road.
Pawar stressed that this project will play a game-changing role for Pune’s transport infrastructure, complementing ongoing metro developments and relieving congestion across key suburban areas.
