Heavy Rainfall Alert for Pune-Kolhapur; Thunderstorms and Strong Winds Likely in Eastern Maharashtra

While Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar saw a pause in rainfall today, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for intense showers in parts of Maharashtra over the next few days, especially for the Konkan region and eastern Vidarbha.

Konkan Region:

The IMD has issued a heavy rainfall warning for Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts from June 27 to 30. Thunderstorms and gusty winds are likely to accompany these downpours. Citizens have been advised to step out only if necessary during this period.

Pune and Western Maharashtra:

Pune City, Nashik, Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, and Ahmednagar will experience light rainfall for the next four days.

However, Pune Ghats and Kolhapur hill areas, including parts of Satara, are expected to receive extremely heavy rainfall, particularly during a five-hour danger window.

Remaining parts of western Maharashtra will witness moderate showers.

Marathwada:

Districts like Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, and Dharashiv will mostly remain dry or receive very light rainfall over the next few days. Despite the arrival of monsoon, consistent rain has not yet been observed in the region, raising concerns about water scarcity.

Vidarbha – High Alert:

The next four days are critical for Vidarbha, with IMD warnings in place for Akola, Amravati, Wardha, Washim, and Yavatmal districts from June 26 to June 29. Forecasts predict:

  • Thunderstorms with lightning
  • Gusty winds at speeds of 30–40 kmph
  • Moderate to heavy rainfall

Farmers have been urged to take necessary precautions to protect their crops, and all citizens are advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms.

Additionally, Bhndara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, and Nagpur districts are also under alert, with heavy rains and strong winds predicted over the next four days. IMD officials have warned of increased rainfall intensity in these regions.
