Frustrated by the continued inaction of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), residents of Dhanori and Lohgaon staged a fresh protest on Monday morning on the Bharat mata road, highlighting the worsening state of roads and unresolved drainage issues in their area.
Organized by the Dhanori Lohgaon Residents Association, the protest took place on Bharat Mata Road, where citizens gathered in large numbers to demand immediate attention from the civic body. The road, riddled with potholes and poor drainage, has become a daily hazard for commuters, residents alleged.
This is not the first time the residents have voiced their grievances. Just two weeks ago, over 200 locals had demonstrated outside the PMC headquarters, demanding swift action on long-pending issues related to roads, drainage, and irregular water supply. During that protest, a delegation from the association also met with the PMC Commissioner, who had reportedly assured them that corrective measures would be taken soon.
However, with no visible improvements on the ground, the residents felt compelled to take to the streets once again. Holding placards and raising slogans, the protestors expressed their disappointment over what they described as PMC’s repeated apathy.
“The condition of the roads is pathetic. It’s dangerous for children, senior citizens, and even for emergency vehicles. Despite our repeated efforts, the civic body has done nothing,” said a member of the association.
Residents have demanded a concrete timeline from PMC for the repair of roads, completion of drainage works, and restoration of basic infrastructure. They warned that if the civic authorities continue to ignore their demands, they will intensify their agitation.
The protest reflects a growing discontent among suburban residents who feel neglected despite contributing significantly to the city’s tax revenues.
