Mumbai, July 1, 2025:

The state government has appointed Rajesh Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue Department, as the new Chief Secretary of Maharashtra. He took charge from outgoing Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik as the 49th Chief Secretary in the Secretariat today.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar said he aims to speed up all departmental schemes and ensure that common citizens do not need to visit the Secretariat for their routine work.

Brief Profile of Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar and Key Positions Held:

Rajesh Kumar (IAS 1988 batch) was born on August 3, 1965. He joined the Indian Administrative Service on August 25, 1988. Originally from Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan, he holds a postgraduate degree in History.

Rajesh Kumar began his career as Surplus Assistant District Collector in Solapur on July 24, 1989. He has since held several key positions including:

  • Assistant District Collector, Satara
  • CEO, Beed Zilla Parishad
  • Additional Commissioner, Tribal Development, Amravati
  • District Collector, Dharashiv and Jalgaon
  • Municipal Commissioner, Solapur
  • Private Secretary to Union Minister of State for Rural Development
  • Commissioner, Tribal Development, Nashik
  • Commissioner, Integrated Child Development, Navi Mumbai
  • Principal Secretary, Water Supply Department
  • Additional Chief Secretary in departments including Industries, Energy & Labour, Rural Development, Cooperation, Marketing & Textiles, and most recently, Revenue and Forests.

He brings with him extensive administrative experience from various key sectors in the state.
