Maharashtra Weather Update: Even as the monsoon’s impact remains limited in some parts of Maharashtra, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted an intensification of rainfall over the next few days. Between July 4 and July 6, heavy to very heavy rain is expected in several districts, with warnings of rivers and streams possibly overflowing in vulnerable areas.

Heavy Rainfall Warning for Konkan and Ghats

While most regions in Maharashtra may see dry or cloudy weather on July 4Kolhapur, Sindhudurg, and the Sahyadri Ghats are likely to experience intense downpours. The IMD has issued a red alert for Kolhapur’s hilly regions and parts of Sindhudurg, warning of extremely heavy rainfall and possible flooding.

Mumbai and Coastal Districts on Alert

Coastal areas including Raigad, Ratnagiri, Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar could see widespread heavy rain in the next 24 hours, prompting local administrations to urge residents to stay vigilant. In Mumbai, cloudy skies and intermittent showers are expected throughout Thursday, with some suburban areas likely to witness spells of heavy rain.

  • Raigad and Ratnagiri are under an orange alert, indicating the possibility of very heavy rainfall at isolated places.
  • Sindhudurg has been placed under a yellow alert for moderate rain with warnings of localized flooding.
  • In the Sahyadri Ghats, strong showers are expected in scattered locations, increasing the risk of landslides and waterlogging.

Reduced Rainfall in North-West Maharashtra

In contrast, Western Maharashtra, North Maharashtra, and Marathwada districts are likely to see light to moderate rain on July 4, with no significant threat of torrential downpours. Vidarbha too is forecast to have cloudy skies with scattered light showers, but the overall intensity is expected to remain low.

Rain to Intensify from July 5 Onwards

From July 5, the IMD has forecast an increase in rainfall activity across Vidarbha and Marathwada. Districts in these regions may witness heavy to very heavy showers, for which farmers, residents, and local authorities have been advised to take necessary precautions.
