Tragic Rescue: Kabaddi Player Brijesh Solanki Dies of Rabies After Ignoring Dog Bite
Family says 22-year-old athlete did not take anti-rabies vaccine after rescuing puppy from drain
A 22-year-old state-level kabaddi player from Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district has died of rabies after reportedly failing to get vaccinated following a dog bite. The deceased, Brijesh Solanki, a resident of Farana village, was bitten by a puppy nearly two months ago while trying to rescue it from a drain.
According to his family, Brijesh did not consider the bite serious and chose not to take the anti-rabies vaccine. His health began to deteriorate on June 28, and he succumbed despite efforts to treat him. A private hospital in Aligarh later confirmed that he had developed rabies, possibly from a bite by a rabid animal most likely a dog or monkey.
Brijesh, who was the youngest of three brothers, had been undergoing training in kabaddi at the time of the incident. Following his death, the health department launched a precautionary drive in Farana village, administering anti-rabies vaccines to 29 people who may have come in contact with the infected animal or the deceased.
Health officials have once again stressed the importance of timely vaccination following any animal bite, regardless of severity, to prevent such tragedies.
