Mumbai, July 8:
A doctor working at Mumbai’s JJ Hospital reportedly jumped off the Atal Setu into the creek on Monday night. As of Tuesday afternoon, the search operation to locate him remains ongoing.
According to police sources, the incident occurred late on Monday when Dr. Omkar Bhagwat Kavitke, aged 32 and a resident of Kalamboli, stopped his car on the Atal Setu bridge—which connects Mumbai and Navi Mumbai—and leapt into the creek below. A witness who saw the doctor jump immediately alerted the police.
Upon receiving the call at the control room, police teams and beat marshals rushed to the spot. At the scene, officers recovered a Honda Amaze car parked on the lane towards Mumbai, along with an iPhone. The mobile phone helped authorities confirm the identity of the missing doctor.
Following the incident, search operations were launched using the ‘Dhruvtara’ boat and specialized search teams to locate Dr. Kavitke in the creek. Police have also appealed to citizens to share any information that could assist in the search.
Meanwhile, police are investigating why Dr. Kavitke may have chosen to take such a drastic step.
