Pune, July 11, 2025: A disturbing incident of food contamination has surfaced in Wanowrie, where a woman discovered a cockroach in the soup served at a local restaurant, Bhiwandi Darbar. Lashkar Police have booked the hotel owner and manager for endangering public health.

The incident took place on June 16 at Bhiwandi Darbar restaurant when Ashwini Ravi Shirsat (31), a resident of Dapodi, was dining with her family. As the staff served soup before the main course, Shirsat was horrified to find a cockroach floating in it.

She confronted the hotel manager and staff over hygiene lapses but alleged that they failed to take the matter seriously. Shirsat later filed a complaint with Lashkar Police, leading to a case against the hotel manager and the owner. They have been booked under Section 275 of the BNS for serving adulterated food harmful to health.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Girish Dighavkar, senior police inspector, Lashkar police station confirmed that the incident took place at a restaurant in Pune Camp and a case has been registered against the restaurant authorities.

Shirsat accused the hotel of gross negligence and serving food unfit for consumption.

In response to these incidents, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued strict warnings to hotels and eateries across Pune. Operators have been directed to maintain kitchen hygiene and avoid contamination, with authorities vowing strict action against violators.
