Bomb Threat to Golden Temple Triggers Massive Security Operation in Amritsar
Amritsar, July 15, 2025: Security has been heightened at the Golden Temple complex after the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) received an email threatening to plant explosives at the sacred site. The Punjab Police have launched an investigation and deployed bomb disposal squads and anti-sabotage teams to secure the area.
SGPC Chief Secretary Kulwant Singh Mannan confirmed that the email mentioned RDX explosives and hinted at possible harm to the shrine on Monday, though it lacked specific timing details. “While the threat could be a hoax aimed at spreading fear, we are not taking any chances,” Mannan said. Security patrols have been intensified across the complex, including the parikrama and surrounding lanes, and CCTV surveillance is under close review.
Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said an FIR has been registered, and the State Cyber Crime Cell is working with intelligence agencies to trace the source of the email. “We are treating this threat with utmost seriousness and have deployed senior officers to oversee security arrangements,” Bhullar stated, urging citizens to stay calm and vigilant.
SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami chaired a high-level meeting to assess the situation and oversee long-term security measures, including the installation of scanners at key checkpoints.
Police have reassured the public that there is no cause for panic and that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure the safety of devotees and the historic site.
