Pune: Murlikant Petkar To Receive Sahas Award; Gauri Dhumal Honoured With Sajag Award By Hindu Mahila Sabha
Pune, July 15, 2025: The Hindu Mahila Sabha, Pune, has announced that this year’s Sahas Award, given annually, will be conferred upon Padma Shri Murlikant Petkar, a gold medalist in the Paralympics, while the Sajag Award, instituted in memory of the late Leelavati Phalnikar, will be awarded to Gauri Dhumal, founder of Swaminivas Old Age Home.
The awards will be presented by sports icon Dr. Arun Datar at a program scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 19, at S.M. Joshi Auditorium, Navi Peth, starting at 5:30 pm. This event marks the Amrit Mahotsavi year of the Navratri Mahotsav celebrations of the Hindu Mahila Sabha.
The program is free & open to all on a first-come-first-served basis, as informed by Supriya Damle, President of Hindu Mahila Sabha. Both awards consist of a citation and a memento. The Sahas Award is being presented for the fifth time, while the Sajag Award is in its third year. The Sajag Award is given in memory of the late Leelavati Phalnikar, mother of Vijay Phalnikar of the social organization ‘Aapla Ghar’.
The program will feature a musical tribute by children from the Maharashtra Cultural Center, accompanied by an orchestra, who will pay homage to the award winners. Following the award ceremony, Sumedha Chitdhare will conduct a public interview with Padma Shri Murlikant Petkar.
