Pune: Adopt-a-Road’ Initiative Launched To Improve Road Maintenance With Public Participation
Pune, July 16, 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) inaugurated the ‘Adopt-a-Road’ initiative today under the aegis of the Deputy Commissioner, Circle No.1. The program was launched by the Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore in the presence of Additional Municipal Commissioners and heads of various departments.
As part of this initiative, PMC officials along with social activists and NGOs have been entrusted with the responsibility of “parenting” specific roads across the city. Their role includes ensuring key aspects such as walkable footpaths, pothole-free roads, removal of encroachments and unauthorized flex banners, elimination of waterlogging points, managing dangling internet cables, maintenance of drainage systems and manholes, repairing and painting medians, zebra crossings, beautification of medians, trimming overgrown and hazardous tree branches, regular cleanliness, and removal of debris.

The active participation of local residents will ensure that these roads are regularly inspected, and any issues identified during inspections will be promptly addressed. All concerned officers have been instructed to act swiftly to resolve deficiencies.
A total of 45 PMC officers and 45 citizens have been appointed for this initiative. Both groups are expected to work voluntarily to make roads and footpaths safe and accessible for public use.
