Pune: Mula-Mutha Riverfront And Rejuvenation Projects To Progress With Public Consensus, Say Officials
Pune, July 20, 2025: The ambitious Mula-Mutha riverfront development and rejuvenation projects will move forward only after taking all stakeholders into confidence, assured Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram during an interactive session on Friday.
The dialogue, organised by the Policy Advocacy Research Centre (PARK) at the Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute, brought together government officials, experts, and representatives of NGOs to deliberate on various aspects of the two projects. Chief Engineer Prashant Waghmare and officers from related government departments were also present.

The session opened with remarks by Mahesh Pohnerkar, followed by presentations from technical experts, civic officials, and citizen representatives. Dr. Manvi Singh and Dr. Amruta Joglekar voiced citizen concerns regarding flood management, sewage treatment, eco-sensitive tree plantation, water retention strategies, and the implementation of SCADA systems.
Emphasising the critical role of Pune’s experts and voluntary organisations, the officials stressed that the projects are not merely engineering undertakings but integral to safeguarding the city’s ecological future. “By bringing together the administration, NGOs, and elected representatives, we can strike a balance between environmental conservation and urban development,” Commissioner Ram stated.
The officials further assured that meticulous planning addressing challenges, citizen issues, and sustainable solutions will help restore the river to its pristine glory.
