Guava: The Low-Cost Superfood Backed by a Top Cardiologist
Pune: Dr. Ravindra L. Kulkarni, a senior heart specialist with over 25 years of experience and founder of “Just For Hearts,” recently shared a popular Twitter post talking about the many health benefits of guava (known as पेरू in Marathi). He called it a “superfood” that’s affordable, healthy, and often ignored because of its simple look.
Though guava is commonly seen at fruit stalls and toll booths, Dr. Kulkarni says it’s full of important vitamins, minerals, and fiber — making it one of the best fruits for daily health.
Why Guava Is Good for You:
Improves Brain Power in Students
Guava has magnesium and Vitamin B, which help students focus better and feel calm.
Boosts Immunity and Oral Health
It has more Vitamin C than oranges, which helps fight infections and keeps gums and teeth strong.
Helps Diabetics
Guava has low sugar levels and lots of fiber. It raises blood sugar slowly, which is safe for people with diabetes.
Supports New Mothers
Guava gives iron, folic acid, and natural sugar — which help women regain strength after childbirth.
Helps in Weight Loss
Low in calories and rich in fiber, guava keeps you full for longer and reduces extra snacking.
Good for Skin and Hair
It has Vitamins A and C that help keep skin glowing and hair healthy.
Good for the Heart
Its potassium and fiber help control blood pressure and cholesterol — lowering the chance of heart problems.
Improves Digestion
Guava helps with common stomach issues like constipation, acidity, and diarrhea.
A Simple Fruit with Big Benefits
Dr. Kulkarni says guava may look ordinary but is packed with nutrition. He encourages everyone to include it in their regular diet. “Don’t ignore this fruit just because it’s cheap. Next time you see guava, grab it — your body will thank you,” he said.
