With the onset of monsoon across several parts of India, health experts have issued advisories urging the public to take preventive measures against waterborne diseases. The rainy season, while offering relief from intense summer heat, also heightens the risk of infections such as diarrhea, cholera, typhoid, and hepatitis A due to contaminated water sources.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, thousands of cases of water-related illnesses are reported each year during the monsoon. Experts warn that these diseases are largely preventable through basic hygiene practices and informed lifestyle choices.

Drink Only Safe and Clean Water

Health authorities stress the importance of consuming only purified or boiled water. Households are advised to use UV or RO water purifiers and clean storage containers regularly. Individuals stepping out are encouraged to carry their own water bottles to avoid reliance on unsafe public sources.

Avoid Street Food and Raw Produce

Street vendors often operate in unhygienic conditions, particularly during the monsoon. Doctors advise avoiding raw salads, juices, and uncooked foods from unknown sources. Only freshly prepared, home-cooked meals should be consumed during this season.

Maintain Strict Hand Hygiene

Frequent handwashing with soap and clean water is essential to prevent the spread of bacteria and viruses. In areas where water is scarce, alcohol-based hand sanitizers should be used. Hand hygiene is especially important before meals and after using the restroom.

Ensure Proper Waste Disposal and Sanitation
