Pune, July 22, 2025: Frustrated over years of civic apathy, residents of Venkatesh Flora Township at Deccan Paper Mills in Mundhwa staged a protest on Monday, demanding urgent intervention from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Holding placards and raising slogans, the residents highlighted pressing issues such as crumbling roads, mounting garbage, unregulated builder activity, and worsening traffic chaos in the area.

Broken Roads, Health Hazards, and Civic Apathy:

The protestors, led by Moshe Aston, Chairman of Flora Villas Co-op HSG Society Ltd, and committee members along with Patil of Venkatesh Flora Phase 2, decried the state of the approach roads. “These roads are riddled with potholes, muck, and debris, making commuting a nightmare. Two-wheeler riders often skid and fall, and those with slip disc suffer unbearable pain when travelling over these roads,” Mr. Aston said.

Residents are also grappling with a growing garbage dump at the township entrance. “It’s become a permanent breeding ground for diseases. I personally lost five months recovering from Chikungunya and joint pain. Yet, PMC ignores our repeated complaints,” Aston added.

Builder Trucks and Lawless Activity

Residents raised concerns over reckless construction trucks damaging fragile roads. Massive dumpers are illegally parked on narrow internal lanes, creating fresh potholes and endangering pedestrians. “PMC is enabling these greedy builders to misuse the area. Life here has become unbearable,” a resident said.

Hadapsar Terminal Sparks Traffic Nightmare

The recently activated Hadapsar Railway Terminal has worsened traffic congestion. Cabs and shared autos block access during peak train timings, leaving residents stranded and making it difficult for emergency vehicles to navigate.

Key Demands by Residents

* Immediate road repairs and resurfacing

* Regulation of builder activity and illegal parking of trucks

* Regular garbage clearance and pest control

* Signboards warning against dumping waste

* Parking regulation and traffic signal installation near Maharaja Sayajiraje Gaekwad Signal

* Deployment of traffic police at Hadapsar Terminal access roads

“This is about basic human dignity and fair use of our taxes. Mundhwa has become a nightmare for those who moved here from Koregaon Park and Kalyani Nagar,” Aston concluded.
