Nitin Gadkari to Receive Lokmanya Tilak National Award on August 1 in Pune

Pune, July 23 – Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari will be honoured with the Lokmanya Tilak National Award on August 1 in Pune. He will be the 43rd recipient of this prestigious award.

The award was started in 1983 by the Tilak Smarak Mandir Trust to honour the legacy of freedom fighter Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak. It is given every year on August 1, the day Tilak passed away, to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the development and progress of India.

The award includes a cash prize of ₹1 lakh and a citation.

Last year, the award was given to social worker and Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty for her work in rural development, literature, and social service. In 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the award for his leadership and efforts to promote patriotism.

In the past, many well-known personalities have been honoured with this award, including Pranab Mukherjee, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Indira Gandhi, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Sharad Pawar, Rahul Bajaj, Cyrus Poonawalla, Verghese Kurien, M.S. Swaminathan, Sheila Dikshit, and Tessy Thomas.
