Lonavala, July 25, 2025: Traffic on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway was briefly disrupted on Friday evening after a minor landslide near the Amrutanjan Bridge in the Khandala Ghat section. The landslide, triggered by continuous heavy rainfall, occurred around 6 PM, affecting vehicles travelling towards Mumbai.

According to officials, soil, trees, and bushes slid onto the Mumbai-bound lane, partially blocking the road. Borghat Highway Police and IRB Infrastructure teams responded swiftly to begin clearance operations. To facilitate debris removal, one lane heading towards Mumbai was temporarily closed, leading to a brief traffic slowdown.

However, by 7:30 PM, the debris was cleared, and traffic movement was fully restored. No injuries or major damage were reported in the incident.

Officials attributed the incident to persistent rainfall in the Khandala Ghat region since Thursday night. In recent years, the Khandala Ghat stretch has witnessed multiple landslides, prompting the installation of safety nets and preventive infrastructure to reduce rockfall risks.

Commuters and local residents have urged authorities to implement additional safety measures during the monsoon to prevent soil erosion or mudslides from endangering lives and disrupting traffic flow on this vital expressway.

Authorities continue to monitor the area for further signs of instability, ensuring the safety of thousands of daily travellers on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
