Pimpri-Chinchwad | July 29, 2025 — In a significant development, the Maharashtra MahaYuti government has taken a proactive step towards addressing the long-pending issues of traffic congestion and inadequate infrastructure in the Chakan industrial belt. A high-level meeting involving key departments has been scheduled for July 30 in Mumbai, signaling that the government is now in “action mode” under its new “Unclog_Chakan_MIDC” initiative.
The meeting will be chaired by Public Works Minister Shambhuraj Shivendrasinhraje Bhosale and Industries Minister Uday Samant, and will bring together senior officials from various state departments. The focus will be on formulating a time-bound action plan to streamline traffic and improve industrial connectivity in the region.
The push for urgent intervention was led by BJP MLA Mahesh Landge, who has consistently raised the issue of traffic bottlenecks and the lack of basic facilities in Chakan MIDC. Last week, Landge met with several industrial association representatives and also discussed the matter with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, demanding a clear and actionable roadmap.
Following his appeal, the Chief Minister’s Office directed the Public Works Department to convene the interdepartmental meeting. Strategic decisions are expected from the upcoming session, which has generated high expectations among industries operating in the area.
Key Officials Expected at the Meeting:
- Additional Chief Secretary, Public Works Department
- Secretary (Roads), Public Works Department
- Chief Engineer, MSIDC
- Chief Engineer, PWD Regional Office, Pune
- Chief Engineer, MIDC Pune
- Project Director, NHAI Pune
- Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Pimpri-Chinchwad
- Municipal Chiefs of Chakan and Talegaon
MLA Mahesh Landge’s Statement:
“The ‘Unclog_Chakan_MIDC’ campaign isn’t just about support — we are committed to driving real change. Just as the BJP-led MahaYuti government is actively resolving issues in Hinjawadi IT Park, we will pursue every measure needed to decongest and revitalise the Chakan industrial zone,” he said.
The move follows increased political and industrial pressure during the monsoon session of the state assembly, where legislators from Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad had collectively demanded urgent solutions for Chakan’s infrastructural bottlenecks.
The upcoming meeting is expected to be a turning point for Chakan MIDC, which has long awaited coordinated and effective intervention.
