Pune Police Commissioner Refutes Eknath Khadse’s Allegations Over Son-in-Law’s Arrest

Pune: PMC, Police And Excise Form Joint Committee To Monitor Noise At Pubs And Restaurants
Pune | July 29, 2025 — Following the arrest of Dr. Pranjal Khewalkar, son-in-law of senior politician Eknath Khadse, during a raid in Pune on the night of July 26, Khadse raised serious concerns about the police action and administration in a press conference. Responding to these allegations, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has strongly denied any wrongdoing and defended the police operation.
What Did the Commissioner Say?
Commissioner Kumar clarified that the police action was lawful, transparent, and based on credible intelligence. He stated, “We acted on confidential information and followed proper legal procedures. A detailed account of the operation was shared with the media. There is no reason to doubt the integrity of Pune Police.”
He also addressed the issue of leaked photos and videos from the raid, asserting that no such material was released by the police. “If members of the public recorded anything, it’s beyond our control. But let me be clear — the police did not leak any photos or videos,” Kumar stated.
Khadse’s Allegations:
In his press conference, Eknath Khadse questioned the legitimacy of labeling the gathering as a “rave party.” He said, “There were only five to seven people at the house. There was no loud music, no dancing, no chaos. How can that be called a rave party? The police must clearly define what a rave party actually is.”
He further alleged that the incident was a deliberate attempt to malign his son-in-law’s reputation and demanded clarity on the state’s intentions.
Additionally, Khadse accused the police of surveillance, claiming that plainclothes officers had been monitoring him. “Even during my press conference, police officers in civilian clothes were present. There are police outside my house right now. Why am I being watched? Is this an organized conspiracy?” he asked, questioning the motive behind the entire episode.
