Pune: Power Supply Restored In Chakan MIDC After 4 DaysÂ
Pune, July 29, 2025: Power supply in the Chakan MIDC area has been fully restored after four days of rotational outages caused by a malfunction in a 50 MVA transformer at the 220 kV Chakan Phase-2 Extra High Voltage (EHV) substation. The Maharashtra State Transmission Company (Mahatransco) and Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) worked on a war footing and successfully repaired the fault by 12:19 PM on Tuesday (July 29).
The Chakan Phase-2 substation houses two 50 MVA transformers. One of them failed on July 21. Since industrial demand is low on Sundays, Mahatransco began replacement work on July 26 at 4 PM. The new transformer was made operational on the morning of July 28 at 9:35 AM. However, it developed another fault later that evening amidst heavy rain. After urgent repair work, the transformer was finally restored to full capacity by 12:19 PM on July 29.
During the outage, Mahatransco rerouted a 40 MW load to the second transformer, implementing rotational supply. In total, 190 high-voltage and 1,100 low-voltage industrial consumers, along with around 6,500 domestic consumers from villages like Varale, Bhamboli, Savardara, Shinde, Vasoli, and Sangurdi, were affected.
To balance the load, MSEDCL supplied electricity to villages at night and to industries during the day. Key industrial customers impacted included Tata TACO, GE, Packtime, Emerson, Emitek, Essar, Plastic Omnium, and Bajaj Electric.
The repair and supply restoration effort was led by MSEDCL Chief Engineer Sunil Kakade, Mahatransco Chief Engineer Anil Kolap, Superintending Engineers Yuvraj Jarg (MSEDCL) and Vitthal Bhujbal (Mahatransco), Executive Engineer Rajendra Edke, Deputy Executive Engineer Prakash Shelke, and Assistant Engineer Vikrant Varude.
