Pune: Even as more than 6.2 lakh students are still waiting for admission, the Maharashtra School Education Department has instructed all junior colleges across the state to start FYJC (First Year Junior College) classes by August 11.

Mahesh Palekar, Director of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, stated that 8,11,731 students have secured admission after the third round of the centralised online admission process. However, 6,21,923 students remain without a college seat.

Of the 21.43 lakh available seats across 9,522 junior colleges in Maharashtra, only 14.32 lakh students have registered for admission. In the third CAP (Centralised Admission Process) round, 70,707 students secured seats, while 22,354 got admissions under minority, in-house, and management quotas. A total of 93,061 fresh admissions were reported in this round.

As per the fourth round of admissions, 3,151 fresh registrations were completed till July 28, while over 2.6 lakh students have submitted Part 2 of their application forms. Another 9,430 students applied under special quotas.

Students allotted seats in the fourth round must confirm admission by visiting colleges physically between August 1 and 2. A special admission round will be held from August 1 to accommodate those still awaiting a seat. With classes starting soon, students and parents remain anxious as they wait for seat confirmation in the upcoming round.
