Ex-Army officer and Disha Patani’s sister faces backlash, calls out misogyny while standing firm on her values

Khushboo Patani, the elder sister of Bollywood actress Disha Patani and a former Army officer, has issued a public clarification after a video of her criticizing spiritual figure Aniruddhacharya Maharaj went viral online, misleadingly presented as being targeted at Premanand Ji Maharaj. The video, which quickly spread across social media platforms, drew intense backlash from followers of Premanand Ji, prompting Khushboo to set the record straight.

Taking to her Instagram handle late Wednesday evening, Khushboo shared a detailed statement to counter the growing misinformation. “It has come to my notice that a false narrative is being circulated online, mixing my name with revered spiritual figure Premanand Maharaj Ji, and spreading baseless claims that I’ve said something about him,” she wrote. “Let me make this very clear – I have not made any statement against Premanand Maharaj Ji. My words were strictly in response to a misogynistic comment made by Anirudh Acharya, and were directed only at him.”

The controversy began when a viral clip of Aniruddhacharya made disturbing generalizations about women in live-in relationships. In the video, the spiritual speaker was heard saying, “Ladke laate hain 25 saal ki ladkiyon ko, jo 4-5 jagah mooh maar ke aati hain,” a comment which sparked outrage, especially among women. Reacting to this, Khushboo, in her own video, lashed out in strong language, calling Aniruddhacharya a “ba**rd of the highest order” and accused society of encouraging such regressive narratives.

Facing a barrage of abusive comments and misinformation, Khushboo disabled the comments on her post and stood her ground. “It deeply pains me to see people misusing and twisting my words, dragging my name and my family name into something we have nothing to do with. This kind of targeted misinformation is not only unethical but dangerous,” her statement read.

While she firmly distanced herself from any statement against Premanand Ji Maharaj, Khushboo stood by her core message: “Respecting saints and spiritual traditions is something I hold deeply in my heart. But calling out misogyny, wherever it comes from, is also my dharma and I will not remain silent in the face of injustice.”

Her bold stand has ignited fresh conversations around accountability in spiritual discourse and the need to call out problematic narratives, even when they come from religious figures
