If you are planning a trip to one of Uttarakhand’s most visited hill stations, take note online registration is now mandatory for tourists starting August 1, 2025. The Uttarakhand Tourism Department has launched a new digital system to monitor tourist footfall and enhance crowd management and amenities.
To streamline the growing number of visitors, tourists are now required to register online before arrival. The mandatory rule, available at registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in/mussoorie, applies to both domestic and international travelers.
Why Registration Is Required:
District Tourism Officer Brijendra Pandey stated that the initiative aims to curb overcrowding and ease traffic issues in the hill region, where tourist footfall has nearly doubled between 2022 and 2024. The real-time registration data will also help authorities improve service delivery and infrastructure planning.
Online Tourist Registration: Step-by-Step Guide
- Visit the official portal: registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in/mussoorie
- Enter Details: Full name, mobile/email, travel dates, number of accompanying persons, and vehicle number (if applicable)
- OTP Verification: Indian tourists receive an OTP via SMS; international tourists via email
- QR Code Issued: A digital QR code is generated upon successful verification—this must be shown at checkpoints and hotels
The directive also applies to hoteliers and accommodation providers, who must ensure all guests are registered. This move follows a National Green Tribunal (NGT) order issued in May, mandating tourist registration to protect the ecological balance of the hill region.
