Pimpri-Chinchwad, August 5, 2025: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) recently announced a 50% property tax rebate for properties located in designated ‘Red Zones’. This decision has triggered anger among thousands of honest taxpayers in housing societies across the city.

Sanjeevan Sangle, President of the Chikhali-Moshi-Pimpri-Chinchwad Housing Society Federation, submitted a memorandum to PCMC Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh demanding, “If rebates are to be given, then thousands of housing society members in the city must also receive the same. Otherwise, such selective decisions will be unfair to genuine taxpayers.”

According to the Federation, many housing societies still lack basic civic amenities — they rely on water tankers instead of regular water supply, roads are either in poor condition or non-existent, and waste management is poorly handled. Despite paying property tax on time, residents are denied basic services. “At the same time, some areas receive tax benefits only due to political pressure — this is unjust,” said the federation.

Rebate Must Be Given, Or We Will Protest

The Federation has warned that if a 50% rebate is not immediately extended to housing society members, representatives from all societies will come together and launch a strong protest. “Giving selective rebates for political gains is a mockery of honest taxpayers. We will not tolerate this injustice,” the Federation asserted.

“The Corporation collects taxes from us regularly, yet we are deprived of essential services like water, roads, and waste management. If only Red Zone properties are granted a 50% tax rebate, it undermines the trust of honest taxpayers. This injustice must stop. Societies too must be given the same rebate, or we will resort to democratic protests.”
