Instagram Rolls Out Reposts Feed, Live Location Map, and Friends Tab in Latest Social Update
Instagram is enhancing its platform with a new set of features aimed at making social interactions more engaging and personalised. The latest update introduces a dedicated Reposts feed, a Friends tab within Reels, and a real-time Live Map—tools designed to help users stay better connected with their circles and favorite creators.
Reposts Tab
Users can now reshare public Reels and feed posts directly to a new Reposts tab on their profile. Unlike earlier, where sharing required workarounds or cluttered the main grid, the reposted content will now appear in a separate section. This update also ensures proper credit to the original creator, and users can even add a short note when reposting, enhancing context and engagement.
Live Map Feature
Taking inspiration from apps like Snapchat, Instagram is introducing a Live Map that shows where your friends and creators are posting from in real-time. However, privacy remains a priority—location sharing is turned off by default. Users can choose who sees their location, whether it’s all followers, close friends, selected individuals, or no one. Additionally, Instagram allows blocking location sharing for specific places.
This feature appears at the top of the Direct Messages inbox and is currently rolling out in the U.S., with plans to expand globally.
Friends Tab in Reels
A new “Friends” tab within Reels now showcases the videos your friends have interacted with—liked, commented on, or shared—giving users a window into trending content within their circle. This feature uses Instagram’s “Blends” recommendation system to tailor content based on shared preferences. If desired, users can mute updates or hide their own activity to maintain privacy.
These new tools reflect Instagram’s broader goal of shifting from a visual feed-based app to a more socially interactive space. With features designed to bring users closer to their friends and communities, Instagram continues its evolution into a more connected, people-centric platform.
