Pune, August 7, 2025: Leaders and workers from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance staged a strong protest outside the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) headquarters, accusing the former municipal commissioner—who retired two months ago—of financial misconduct and theft of government property.

Protesters alleged that the former commissioner, instead of focusing on civic development, spent his tenure issuing unnecessary tenders for personal gains. They further claimed that upon retirement, he took away expensive items such as a dining table, chandeliers, air conditioning units and brass utensils from the official residence. Adding to the controversy, the PMC administration has reportedly issued fresh tenders to repurchase the stolen goods, leading to further outrage.

Political and social activists who questioned the administration about the incident were allegedly treated disrespectfully, prompting a unified protest by opposition parties.

The protest witnessed participation from all MVA constituents, including the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), Congress, Shiv Sena, and also the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). NCP Sharad Pawar faction, city president Prashant Jagtap criticised the PMC’s alleged attempt to cover up the misconduct, terming it “highly condemnable.” He was joined by Congress city chief Arvind Shinde, Shiv Sena leaders Sanjay More and Gajanan Tharkude, and MNS leader Sainath Babar.

The protesting leaders demanded a thorough investigation, accountability from the civic body, and transparency in all administrative actions.
