In one of his Instagram posts that is going viral now, he explained that gut health plays an important role in digestion, immunity, and even mental well-being. A healthy gut, with the right balance of bacteria, supports smooth digestion and overall health, while a weak gut can lead to many health problems.

Dr. Sethi advises starting the day with a glass of warm water before having coffee or tea. He says this helps wake up the digestive system and makes bowel movements easier, also reducing the risk of constipation. He recommends following this with some light physical activity, such as walking, stretching, or gentle yoga. These movements help reduce bloating and get the digestive system working early in the day.

Breakfast, he says, should be rich in fiber to support regular bowel movements and healthy gut bacteria. Foods like oatmeal with fruits and nuts, whole-grain toast with avocado, or yogurt with chia seeds are good options. Including protein in the morning meal is also important, and Greek yogurt is one of the foods he suggests for both gut health and energy.

Dr. Sethi cautions against scrolling on the phone or using a laptop while eating. Being distracted during meals can slow down digestion and lead to stress, which can harm gut health. Instead, paying attention to the food helps the body digest better and absorb more nutrients.

For drinks, he suggests starting the day with ginger tea or lemon water. Both can help reduce bloating, improve digestion, and keep the body hydrated. He warns against eating sugary cereals for breakfast, as they can disturb the balance of gut bacteria and cause indigestion.

Sunlight is another factor he points to for gut health. Spending 10 to 15 minutes in the sun in the morning provides vitamin D, which helps reduce gut inflammation and supports overall health.

He also recommends psyllium husk as part of a daily routine. It contains soluble fiber that helps digestion, promotes regular bowel movements, and supports healthy bacteria in the gut.

Finally, Dr. Sethi advises paying attention to bowel movements every day. Regular and healthy bowel habits, he says, are a good sign that the gut is functioning well.
