Pune: Traffic congestion in Pune’s central areas has become a growing concern for daily commuters and office-goers. To address this issue, a proposal to develop an underground road network in the city has been tabled, with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis instructing the administration to move forward with the plan.

A high-level meeting was recently held in Pune in the presence of CM Fadnavis to discuss infrastructural measures for the city’s overall development. The meeting included Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol, Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam, and local MLA Hemant Rasane, among others.

During the discussion, CM Fadnavis directed officials to focus on underground road projects in Pune’s central areas to reduce long-term traffic congestion. Projects such as the proposed underground road from Shaniwarwada to Swargate and Sarasbaug to Shaniwarwada are expected to gain momentum following this directive.

Pune Municipal Commissioner Nawal Kishore Ram has also extended his support to the underground road initiative. On Thursday, he conducted a review of the traffic situation in Kasba Peth constituency along with MLA Hemant Rasane and DCP Rishikesh Raut. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is currently working on both short-term and long-term measures to improve the city’s traffic management.

If implemented, the underground road network could transform Pune’s urban mobility and provide major relief to citizens struggling with traffic bottlenecks in key city areas.
